US President Trump joined an exclusive club on Wednesday, December 18th 2019, but one he most likely wanted to avoid. He became the third impeached president in US history. The House of Representatives passed the measure and on the counts of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The first impeached president dates back to 1868 with Andrew Johnson, followed in 1998 with Bill Clinton. Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 before he was impeached. No president was ever convicted by the Senate.

Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Party politician who serves as the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, on Tuesday announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump. She stated that “Today, I am announcing the House of Representatives moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. The President must be held accountable. No one is above the law.
